About the event
Abtuse are an instrumental sextet who play jazz funk/fusion , melding Afro / South American rhythms with improvised jazz and blues lines and a funk feel. Built on a heavy drum/bass foundation, and driven by edgy guitar riffs and keyboard vamps, the horn front line lead with patterned motifs and compelling harmonies. Improvised solos develop from the groove .
Their set is drawn from an eclectic range of numbers , with arrangements adapted to their own style so expect to hear echoes of the Brecker Brothers or Snarky Puppy, a funk - fueled Wayne Shorter , a reimagined jazz standard , or an afro-celtic original.
You may have seen them before in Leeds at Seven Arts or the Hyde Park Book Club, or at The Northern Quarter in Huddersfield. This is a welcome return to the Domino.
